Hi, and welcome to Scotsman Point Resort, on beautiful Buckhorn Lake in Kawartha Lakes Ontario! My name is Andrea Childs. My parents purchased Scotsman Point Resort, on the Trent Severn Waterway in Buckhorn, Ontario, Canada 60 years ago. We have guests who have been coming regularly to our Ontario resort for many of these years.

Some families are fourth generation cottagers at Scotsman Point. All of us look forward each year to renewing resort guest friendships and to making new ones.

Today, our three-season family Kawartha resort has 25 cottages on a protected 12-acre point on the north shore of beautiful Upper Buckhorn Lake, just a 99 minute drive NE of Toronto, Ontario, in the spectacular Kawartha Lakes region of Canada.

I invite you to look around our website to help you decide if Scotsman Point Resort offers what you, your family and friends are looking for in a waterfront resort vacation experience

You can also request our latest full-colour Resort Brochure. The Brochure is full of detailed information and good pictures of all you can do and see at Scotsman Point.

Here's a quick check list of what we have to offer.

Our location on Upper Buckhorn Lake, part of the Trent Severn Waterway, allows Scotsman Point guests easy access into Pigeon Lake, Big Bald Lake and Chemong Lake, with many miles of fabulous boating and some of the best recreational fishing available. Buckhorn Lake is well known for great Kawartha Lakes fishing, with species including muskie, walleye (also known as pickerel), perch, carppie, small mouth bass and large mouth bass. We offer a number of fishing packages, including midweek fishing packages, as well as fishing weekends and fishing derbies.

An Ontario cottage resort vacation at Scotsman Point is very special. Our resort guests enjoy the comfort and privacy of an immaculately clean cottage by the lake, as well as many additional amenities that are not available with a private cottage rental. A cottage resort holiday offers the best of both worlds, especially for families, and for anyone who enjoys meeting people and making friends. Children have one thing in common; they love to play with other children. A cottage resort vacation at Scotsman Point ensures that your child will be kept happy and entertained with organized fun activities and plenty of playmates.

At Scotsman Point Resort we offer guests at our beautiful Ontario resort a wide choice of comfortable lakefront cottage rental accommodations. Our meticulously maintained housekeeping cottages include cozy studio cabins that sleep one or two, one-bedroom, two-bedroom, two-bedroom apartment units, regular three-bedroom, deluxe three-bedroom, and a spacious four-bedroom cottage that sleeps up to 8. All of our cottages are extensively equipped, well furnished, and offer private decks or screen rooms with lake views. Guest need only bring food and linens.

For Ontario family vacations and romantic couple's getaways, there is so much to do at our Kawartha Lakes resort. Naturally our fabulous waterfront with its soft sand beach and extensive dock system is the focal point for many resort activities. Resort guests have complimentary use of our non-motorized boats, including canoes, rowboats, pedal boat and kayak. A wide selection of motor boats and fishing boats are available for rent. During the summer months waterskiing, wakeboarding and tubing is available. As well, there are many organized activities for our guests. We also offer an assortment of children's activities designed to entertain the youngsters and give their parents a break. Children may participate in a variety of fun activities including outdoor games and arts and crafts. Along with our beautiful Buckhorn Lake waterfront, our guests can enjoy Scotsman Point Resort's beautiful gardens, shady grounds and woodland walkways.

Our lakeside Kawartha resort is not just the perfect location for your family's next Ontario summer vacation, Scotsman Point is an ideal Ontario conference and meeting venue. Less than 2 hours drive from the GTA, we close enough to be convenient for Toronto and Golden Horseshoe area businesses seeking a small Ontario conference resort that offers conference facilities and personalized service, but light-years away from the noise, stresses and distractions of the city. For successful meetings, group retreats, small conferences and team-building, we offer a newly built lakeside meeting room for groups of 6 to 25, as well as several breakout rooms, comfortable cottage accommodations by the lake, delicious meals and attractive rates. For more information about holding your next business conference in the Kawarthas, please contact us. We will be happy to discuss how we can accommodate your group at Scotsman Point Resort.

We offer a number of affordable midweek fall packages. A Kawartha fall escape gives visitors a chance to leisurely explore the local museums, galleries, restaurants and antique shops of Buckhorn and the surrounding villages. With summer over, Kawartha Lakes golf courses and the hiking trails of Petroglyph Provincial Park are less busy, and with the beautiful fall foliage at their scenic best.

The Kawartha Lakes region offers visitors a wealth of recreational activities, cultural events, as well as fabulous shopping and all the services that you may need. Scotsman Point Resort is conveniently located just a short drive away from the charming towns of Buckhorn and Lakefield - as well as the city of Peterborough with its many restaurants, shops and the world famous Peterborough lift lock. There is always something special going on in the Kawarthas, including country fairs, farmers markets, concerts, festivals and live theatre.

An interesting Kawartha area attraction for vacationing families and anyone interested in native history and art and just a short drive from Scotsman Point is The Whetung Ojibwa Crafts and Art Gallery at the Curve Lake Indian Reserve. Visitors to the centre can spend hours viewing the many fine displays of First Nations culture and art. In the main building there's a gift shop and art gallery where visitors will find a display of authentic arts and crafts from across Canada which have been acknowledged as some of the finest in North America. The boutique is filled with traditional and contemporary blankets and scarves, parkas, leather and beadwork, fine art, and souvenirs. The ceiling is covered with hundreds of dream catchers and masks of all descriptions. In the museum, priceless artifacts are on exhibit, offering a glimpse into the rich cultural history of this area. The display includes a private collection, the work of artists and craftspeople from the Curve Lake Reserve and outstanding native craft from across Canada. Outside the main gallery building there is an amik, where local artisans work and an area set aside for the carving of totem poles and picnic tables.

Lakefield Ontario and the Kawartha Lake region are rich in Canadian history. During your Kawartha Lakes getaway at Scotsman Point, why not pay a visit to one or more of the area's many interesting museums. In nearby Bobcaygeon, visitors will find the Kawartha Settlement Village and the Boyd Heritage Museum. In Fenelon Falls, the Maryboro Lodge houses the Fenelon Falls Museum. In Lindsay, the old jail is home to the Victoria County Museum and Historical Society. Between Fenelon Falls and Bobcaygeon is the Horseless Carriage Museum. In Peterborough you will find the Lang Pioneer Village. Omemee, Ontario is the childhood home of Canadian music legend Neil Young and here is where you will find the Youngtown Rock & Roll Museum.

Here in the Kawartha Lakes you will find many wonderfully preserved examples of mid 19th century architecture. For the Ontario history buff and for Ontario antique collectors, this area has many beautiful old buildings to see and wonderful antique shops to explore. The Buckhorn Lake area was first settled by Europeans and United Empire Loyalists in the mid-eighteen hundreds and their influence can be still felt in the area to this day. Autumn is an especially good time to explore this historic Ontario region and its old buildings, historic sites, harvest festivals, antique fairs and collectable shops. Why not plan a Kawartha Fall getaway at Scotsman Point, and do a little antiquing in the Kawarthas this autumn?
