Hi, and welcome to Scotsman Point Resort, on beautiful Buckhorn Lake in Kawartha Lakes Ontario! My name is Andrea Childs. My parents purchased Scotsman Point Resort, on the Trent Severn Waterway in Buckhorn, Ontario, Canada 63 years ago. We have guests who have been coming regularly to our Ontario resort for many of these years.

Some families are fourth generation cottagers at Scotsman Point. All of us look forward each year to renewing resort guest friendships and to making new ones.

Today, our three-season family Kawartha resort has 25 cottages on a protected 12-acre point on the north shore of beautiful Upper Buckhorn Lake, just a 99 minute drive NE of Toronto, Ontario, in the spectacular Kawartha Lakes region of Canada.

I invite you to look around our website to help you decide if Scotsman Point Resort offers what you, your family and friends are looking for in a waterfront resort vacation experience

When one refers to the Kawartha Lakes, you are referring to the band of lakes that form the upper watershed of the Trent River in south central Ontario. The Kawartha Lakes are located where the limestone Paleozoic region of the Golden Horseshoe and the Precambrian granite of northern and central Ontario’s Canadian Shield meet. The word Kawartha is the Anglicization of the word Ka-wa-tha (from Ka-wa-tae-gum-maug or Gaa-waategamaag, meaning), a word first used in 1895 by aboriginal Martha Whetung of the Curve Lake First Nations and namesake of the Whetung Ojibwa Crafts and Art Gallery. The word meant "land of reflections" in the Anishinaabe language, according to Martha. Later, the word Kawatha was changed to Kawartha, with the addition of an "r" by tourism promoters who felt that it was a good name for this scenic region, north of Toronto and would become a popular advertising brand for the area. It is believed that the word Kawartha means "bright waters and happy lands. Those that are familiar with the beautiful Kawartha Lakes know that they were most aptly named.
